chamber Music mentorship program

August 12th - 18th, 2019​

For advanced young musicians

The Chamber Mentorship Program is designed to provide young advanced string players to get a chance to work with some of Canada's most sought-after chamber musicians. This intensive experience will include 3 in-depth rehearsals on a chamber music masterwork, a lesson with one of the mentors, and participation in the Belfountain Music Festival Orchestra (Side-by-Side with all the mentors and other participants), culminating in a performance as part of the 2019 festival programming. Participants will also receive a free pass to all festival concerts. 

Rehearsals will take place at a location in downtown Toronto, and concerts will take place at Alton Mill Arts Centre and Paul Morin Gallery in Caledon, ON.



  • Advanced string players (RCM Gr. 10 or higher equivalent)

  • Age 22 or under

  • Shelley Brown , Flute and Piccolo of Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and National Ballet of Canada Orchestra

  • Julie Hereish, Assistant Cello of Quebec Symphony


Rehearsal and Concert Schedule

Mentor Group Rehearsals:

  • Monday, August 12th 10:30am - 12:30pm

  • Wednesday, August 14th 10:30am - 12:30pm

  • Thursday, August 15th 4pm - 6pm

Side-by-Side Orchestra Rehearsals:

  • Tuesday, August 13th 4pm - 6pm

  • Thursday, August 15th 6:30pm - 8:30pm

  • Friday, August 16th 12:30pm - 2pm



  • Mentor Group A: Friday, August 16th 5:30pm Soundcheck; 7:30pm Concert at Alton Mill Arts Centre

  • Mentor Group B: Saturday, August 17th 5:30pm Soundcheck; 7:30pm at Paul Morin Gallery

  • Side-by-Side Orchestra: Sunday, August 18th 1pm Soundcheck; 2pm at Alton Mill Arts Centre

  • A private lesson can be scheduled separately

Application Requirement:

  • A recording of a solo or sonata movement from Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary period. (15 minutes or less)

  • Video is preferred, but audio is also acceptable.
